On Monday, Chanel joined other high-end fashion designers and retailers in swearing off fur and exotic animal skins from reptiles.
This means that from now on, Chanel will not produce more products with fur and skins from animals including crocodile, snake, shark, and lizard.
The official spokesperson explained the brand's decision as a way to "match [their] ethical standards." Although this change might be a strategy to avoid criticism and damage from animal rights activists, PETA applauded Chanel's move and encouraged people to wear faux fur and vegan leather.
Hopefully Chanel can inspire competitors to limit or stop the use of fur and exotic animal skins like Gucci did last year.
